Well you can add me. It's one of my favourites as well. I watched it in full when it first aired on Sky One (with a strong content warning before it started. Only time that was done with Millennium with the first two seasons that Sky One showed) and have seen bits of it since then. Most recently on Sci-fi on a repeat showing - the end scene (which I'll come to in a bit) and when Rodecker is introduced to the secret Millennium Group room by Peter Watts with Frank.

The end scene I think is brilliant when Frank is inside the theatre and when he gets to the stage at the front. When he walks onto the stage and thinks it is the killer...wow, that is good even on a second viewing. I don't remember what I thought of it on the first viewing on Sky One (it was quite good actually) but when I saw the end scene on the Sci-fi repeat I just thought that was a scary intense scene, but you knew that things were in safe hands with Frank even though you wondered if things would go ok.

Praise to Michael for such an admirable episode and it begs two questions 1) why hasn't he written a show of his own and 2) why aren't we getting interviews of this calibre all the time? (only joking on the latter, I know you guys are pulling out all the stops)

Warren DakotaSouthDakotahttp://southdakotadark.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3494886620882425189.post-69756843064748267452009-07-13T08:08:38.466-07:002009-07-13T08:08:38.466-07:00I agree with Libby above, a wonderful interview.
...I agree with Libby above, a wonderful interview.

I am delighted to see some love for 'Omerta' Done!

There is a lot of sweetness in it: Jordan coming to terms with Catherine's death, Frank dedicating (sort of, there was a genuine will) time to Jordan, nice bad guy, nice girls, truckloads of good feelings, Christmas season. A bit off track as far as MM is concerned (swap Mulder and Frank and the result would be identical), but it is an episode I enjoy as much as a Christmas chocolate box. Very, very, very uplifting to me.

Regards

WellingtonAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3494886620882425189.post-62639367623993886402009-07-13T01:35:27.997-07:002009-07-13T01:35:27.997-07:00Thank you Michael. Now when people say things like "Kiss on Millennium! What were those producers smoking?" I can point them to the real culprit. The end result does have its merits, but clearly because of the way you and the team tackled a seemingly impossible situation and made it work. The conversations between Frank and Emma about the horror movies was excellent.

The Mikado remains one of my top favourites. The concept of that episode was pretty daring back then, given that a lot of the audience would have had little or no experience of the internet and computer technology. It's something that a lot of TV shows and movies still get wrong, but you made The Mikado was very believable.

"Persons Unknown" looks very interesting (and chilling!). I hope it does well and makes it to British TV. Just from watching the trailer I can see it would do well over here.

Thanks for taking the time to give such an interesting and informative interview.

LibbyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3494886620882425189.post-47959318527296444212009-07-12T10:27:24.883-07:002009-07-12T10:27:24.883-07:00Michael, I can't thank you enough for your man...Michael, I can't thank you enough for your many wonderful contributions to my most favourite of television series ever.
Thank you so much for bringing such thought and ingenuity to your creations, the episodes that you wrote.
Its an absolute joy to continue to enjoy them as much now as it was when they first aired.

Thanks B2FB for another wonderful interview, great questions and thought provoking responses!Graham Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10329694510972163247noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3494886620882425189.post-44515717753312311562009-07-11T18:31:14.025-07:002009-07-11T18:31:14.025-07:00"The Mikado" is definitely one of my fav..."The Mikado" is definitely one of my favorite episodes. It is one of the best of the "realistic" episodes, in contrast to the ones featuring demons, etc. Not that I have anything against those, mind you, but "The Mikado" let's us see that Frank Black was a damn fine FBI agent in his own right. Great stuff.

I think that the campiness, out-of-characterness, and over-the-topness in "...Thirteen Years Later" was intended, and it was to make fun of the entire genre of horror films, because that's how they are. My sister's a huge horror movie fan in that she likes to watch them and make fun of them, so I see it as being like that. I mean, in the movie "Valentine", a character get suffocated, drowned, drilled, and electrocuted to death. If that's not over-the-top, I don't know what is.

Long live MRP :)Omeganoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3494886620882425189.post-45964804627432344512009-07-11T18:27:49.753-07:002009-07-11T18:27:49.753-07:00Is it just me or in the graveyard where the first ...Is it just me or in the graveyard where the first victim's head is found, the name 'Hans Renker' is scratched on a rough wooden cross.
'Hans Renker' is a scenic painter (paint co-ordinator) who has worked on episodes of the X-files, Harsh Realm, The Dead Zone etc. Coincidence?

'The Mikado' is just gorgeous!!KaraFairyhttp://www.putiton.com/item/311noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3494886620882425189.post-43421477978661187882009-07-11T18:25:35.342-07:002009-07-11T18:25:35.342-07:00'The Mikado' is probably one of the very b...'The Mikado' is probably one of the very best episodes of MLM. I thought the use of the opera The Mikado was brilliant... "...The Lord High Executioner..." And the Avatar's use of the internet and computer technology. Nice triple play by the writer on the name of Avatar. 1st of all, it is an image to project ones chosen persona into cyberspace. 2ndly, it is a powerful mythological being of immense power and light. 3rdly, it conjures up the feel of a name like Zodiac. The writer really nailed it with the name, and soooooo many other elements of the episode.

Until the next refreshment,

ScottScotthttp://alissonsol.blogspot.com/2008/07/selfosophy.htmlnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3494886620882425189.post-41142305544858784262009-07-11T13:39:11.538-07:002009-07-11T13:39:11.538-07:00I always wondered if Mr. Perry wrote the episode &...I always wondered if Mr. Perry wrote the episode 'The Mikado' as a deliberate nod to the stories of Season One. I am a huge admirer of 'Thirteen Years Later' and enjoyed the nerd-like thrill of seeing so many genre gems paid a little homage here and there in the episode and always wondered if it was my over active gore-hound-eye that deceived me.

I agree with the above comments, Michael's work on Millennium was consistently of quality, never a blip or dip in excellence and The Mikado, well, what you can you say? The scene of Frank and Emma watching the movies is indeed memorable.
Omerta is simply out-of-this-world writing... beautifully enhanced by Mark's ethereal music (and superb acting by everyone involved).
The Mikado... well, no words can do justice to its utter perfection. A true CLASSIC, not only of the series, but of the entire genre. Flawless.
And Collateral Damage!? FANTASTIC. FAN-TAS-TIC. I am always brought to the edge of my seat during the final act.
Thank you so much as well for Nostalgia, an episode I hold very near and dear to my heart.
