Mark Snow X-Files Soundtrack Released

Today sees the long-awaited and much-anticipated release of Mark Snow’s 4-disc soundtrack of his score from the television series run of The X-Files — filled with a wealth of never-before released material — by La La Land Records. Clocking in at a massive running time of 311 minutes, it contains music from "Pilot” all the way up to the series finale The Truth” with many much lauded stops along the way, including a personal — and fan — favourite in Scullys Serenade” from the beginning of Season Eight. Full tracklisting and details on how to order are available at La La Land Records’ product listing. The release is limited to 3,000 copies, retails for the very reasonable price of $49.98 and, as if that were not enough, early orders will be autographed by Mark Snow whilst supplies last.

And just take a look at that photo. Not only will this set boast over 5 hours of blissful music from across all nine seasons of the series but it is a thing of beauty, with much care having gone into its design. It also comes with an extensive booklet which includes the article There’s Something Out There The Meeting of Mythology and Music in The X-Files” by film music journalist Randall D. Larson. It’s an absolute must-have for fans of Mark’s highly influential music, which was of course also such a pivotal piece of the jigsaw in the style and tone of Millennium. And not only is this the most definitive release of music from The X-Files to date, but it is tantalisingly subtitled Volume I, hinting at the possibility of more releases in the future. In fact, plans are already afoot to release Volume II next year.

Rest assured I will be ordering a copy the very moment it comes on sale, and I urge you all to do the same since — just like the superb Millennium 2-disc set that came before it — this title will undoubtedly sell out fast.

Believe in the Future! 10,013 Photos for a Greenlight XF3?

As you know, we're not the only campaign to making noise right now in the Carter camp and I think we can all agree we are stronger united. With this mindset, please read and consider supporting the latest drive from the X-Files News.com staff. While Back to Frank Black looks to bring Frank Black in a form of TV Event, perhaps on FX if possible, X-Files News is looking towards the big screen for The X-Files and success is a good possibility... especially with your support. Have a read and see what you think about their latest venture - could you help bring about its goal?

So without further ado, please read on. I give you Tiffany Devol!

A picture is worth a thousand words and this year, X-Files fans are betting that 10,013 pictures are worth a greenlight for a third X-Files feature film. The Believe in the Future campaign, headed up by XFilesNews.com since 2009, has collected thousands of postcards, videos and souvenirs for Fox from fans of the series. Fox met with XFilesNews two years ago to accept a massive delivery of fan mail from around the world. Later this year, they are prepared to do it again.

The Believe in the Future campaign has the support of fans and fan groups in more than 30 countries representing 6 continents.

Despite the less than stellar performance of The X-Files: I Want to Believe in 2008, many fans and critics alike have pointed out that with December 2012 looming, Fox Film has a perfect opportunity to bring back the mythology of The X-Files.

The Believe in the Future campaign's 10,013 Photos for a Greenlight seeks to gather fan photos from around the world spanning the years 1993-2011 with messages to Fox explaining what The X-Files has meant to fans and why they should green light a third film.

Equally exciting is the news that an X-Files event is being held at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles on May 7th. Series creator Chris Carter is expected to be there along with actor Mitch Pileggi, executive producer R.W. Goodwin, writer and director Glen Morgan, and actors Sheila Larken and Jeff Gulka. A surprise guest is also slated to make an appearance for this Q&A and book signing for the recently released LAX-Files.

The X-Files
is a pop culture icon with mentions in television, radio, newspaper and magazines even now, 9 years after the end of the series.

With 2012 around the corner and word that a third X-Files script is in the works as of this year, fans are ready to believe in (and make) the future together.

Podcast Re-Issue: Back To Frank Black Vs X-Files News?

A reissue from the past of one such yesterday's previous morning's earlier hour. Yes, it's another podcast reissue! Perhaps not "versus", more "mutual respect", but hell that really lacks punch as a headline, does it not?

This time we have - or rather had - a natter with Avi and Tiffany from X-FilesNews.Com. We have another outing with the girls planned in the near future, so we figured we'd slap this one we made far earlier against your iPod's screeny thing!

X-Files Rumours Ahoy!

Some good news has surfaced for The X-Files, though I'm sure the true Philes will have this from their own sources, primarily XFilesNews.com. This bit of rather tasty hope comes from Fox All Access.

I'll report the nuggets as they have been compiled on X-Files News.

Fox All Access has posted some new information about a third X-Files movie: "This is what we know as of now. Discussions for XF3 are happening. Nobody will go on the record as of now. But as we told a few months ago David D, Gillian, and Chris Carter are on board and a script is in the works. This is good news! THE STUDIO HAS NOT SAID NO to XF3. Trust me that is even better news."

In another post, Fox All Access states, "Rumors have late 2012-2013. It depends on the budget, keeping the cost of the film down. XF2 made its money back and more worldwide and talks continue... Keep up the fight for XF3."

And in a post to a fan, Fox All Access writes, "Honestly, where there is smoke there is fire... Trust me, when we are seeing Blade Runner prequels, a remake of Total Recall, and more, I don't think Fox Film will let X-Files just sit and gather dust. It's way to valuable just to sit there." Some encouraging updates there!

And let me take this moment to wish Tiffany at X-Files News a very happy birthday. May Mulder arrive neatly wrapped in nothing else but a bow upon her front doorstep -- or whatever present suits her wishes!

Lance Henriksen Guest Stars on ABC's "Castle" Tonight!

In a must-see episode for any Lance or Ten Thirteen fan, Lance Henriksen guest stars in tonight's brand new episode of Castle on ABC.

The episode, entitled "Close Enounters of the Murderous Kind", also features Lyle Lovett as a federal agent, whilst Lance's character is a "super nerd" and expert on alien abduction! In an interview with TV Guide, creator and executive producer Andrew W. Marlowe explains how the episode is quite explicitly a nod to The X-Files. This, coupled with the inclusion of Lance Henriksen as a guest star, makes this a highly significant televisual event for Ten Thirteen fans and followers of Back to Frank Black, exemplifying the enduring appeal of both Chris Carter's creations and Lance Henriksen himself.

You can watch a sneak peek preview of the episode at ABC's website, and it airs tonight at 10/9C plus will thereafter be available to view online. Don't miss it!

The Truth Is Out There?

This site is dedicated to the return of FBI criminal profiler Frank Black but there are obviously other members of the 1013 family that we support as well. Alongside our campaign for a new Millennium movie, our brothers and sisters over at Xfilesnews.com have been fighting the good fight for a third X-Files film. Needless to say, many Millennium fans are also fans of The X-Files, and vice versa. Well, today Back to Frank Black was contacted by Tiffany Devol who passed on some very encouraging news from a French source.

X-Files 3 Script Underway

According to a French interview today with TV Mag, David Duchovny has reportedly said the following of a third X-Files feature film:

"It is being written. One awaits just the green light from Fox, a little disappointed from the relatively poor reception of the second film. The error comes, in my opinion, that the authors strayed too far from the roots of the series. Moreover, the film was released in the summer. The third will be much closer to what the public expects, with government conspiracies, etc. "

XFilesNews has been campaigning for a third film since the release of The X-Files: I Want to Believe in 2008 and launched the Believe in the Future campaign to convince Fox to green light by 2012.

Let's help support the fine folks at Xfilesnews.com and their pursuit of a new X-Files film. Remember, this could also help us in our cause for a Millennium film!

MORGAN AND WONG WEEK: DAY 2 - X-FILES: HOME

While this may be a Millennium focused campaign, and while there maybe a plethora of Morgan and Wong material out there in the bleak bloody wastes of Millenniumland, to ignore Morgan and Wong's other great achievements in our week's celebrations would be short-sighted.

So for day two, we th
ought we'd look at Morgan and Wong's work on Millennium's older sibling, The X-Files - and perhaps one of our duos most controversial episodes, "Home".

Indeed, to lazily coin a pun, the truth is out there and to aide us finding the truth behind "Home" we have X-Files News.com content and PR guru Tiffany Devol.

Following this article, a chance to win season four of the X-Files (which of course includes "Home" - so check out the details at the bottom of the page).

So without further ado, Morgan and Wong Week Day 2: Home

Home - by far the creepiest "X-File" ever told. Pedophile priests have nothing on the incestuous baby killing Peacock family. What is fascinating about the episode is how bright and cheery everything outside of the Peacock house looks. Equally fascinating is after years of seeing Mulder and Scully in the dark, they look pretty damn good under a sunny blue sky.

Written by long-time friends and writing partners Glen Morgan and James Wong, Home was the first "X-Files" episode to get a viewer discretion warning for graphic content. In the original aired version, the baby's cries at the beginning of the episode were removed due to a request by Standards and Practices. The DVD version has the original audio. Home became one of the most popular episodes of "The X-Files" and was one of director Kim Manners' favorites.

Even now, the episode is as witty as it is disturbing.

The story begins with 3 brothers and a mother whom they keep under the bed. The father was killed in an automobile accident that also claimed the arms and legs of the mother. To continue her family tree, the mother has incestuous relations with her three sons, business as usual for generations of Peacock kids. When the child born to them is riddled with a host of deformities, the brothers take it out back and bury it alive in the cold wet ground as it squeaks more than screams its first breaths.

Days later a few neighborhood boys are playing baseball nearby when the batter kicks at the ground only to discover blood on his tennis shoe. The FBI soon arrives and Mulder and Scully are tasked with solving the horrific crime. They are taken to the police station to examine the body and Scully determines that the child suffered from a host of rare birth defects. After a nice little chat on the park bench outside the police station about babies and Mulder's genetic muster, the duo head out to the Peacock farm where they pass a bloodied hog's head lying on the front porch. Yet another reason why it was better to eat long before 9pm on Friday nights.

Mrs. Peacock overhears Mulder and Scully talking about the investigation and tells her sons who then head to Sheriff Andy Taylor's house in their white caddy. If infanticide was not enough, the Peacock brothers roll up listening to "It's Wonderful, Wonderful" by Johnny Mathis and then proceed to break into the Sheriff's home, brutally murder the man and his wife.

When Mulder requests that backup accompany them to the Peacock farm, Scully voices her concerns over the time that will take given that a woman could be captive in the farm house. Sheriff Taylor's deputy, understandably upset about his partner's death, enthusiastically agrees to take them to the farm house, a house they soon realize is booby trapped. After the deputy quite literally loses his head, Mulder and Scully proceed more cautiously. They hunker down in the mud and set a pen full of swine free in order to distract the brothers and gain entry into the house. That'll do pig.

Just before they get to the porch, partnership is in full swing as Scully bends, grabs a plank of wood and tosses it to Mulder who catches it one handed and heads toward the front door. Once they gain entry, they storm the dark house, working in tandem with flashlights and guns drawn. They soon discover Mrs. Peacock who tells Scully that a boy will do anything for his mother. Realizing the woman is not held against her will, Mulder and Scully try and determine what to do next but the Peacock brothers have picked up their scent and two of them come charging into the house.

When the brothers attack Mulder, Scully empties her clip but they don't stop, intent on killing her partner. The next logical move for Scully? Loudly threaten that she has their mother which gains their attention and forces Mulder to try and keep them from chasing her down. As one brother gains on her, Scully drops to the floor while Mulder shoots the second brother in the kitchen and the brother chasing Scully falls over her and is killed by one of his own booby traps. Whew that had to be fun to film. Mulder runs after Scully as she gets up and he puts a hand out, stopping her from walking toward the dead brother and presumably, toward any more traps.

As the dust settles our dynamic duo realize that the mother and older brother are gone and in the final scenes for the episode, mother and brother are rolling in their caddy, "It's Wonderful, Wonderful" playing joyfully through the stereo.

Home had horror, humor, action and suspense but more than anything, it had the heart of a MOTW story with some great Mulder and Scully moments.

With Home, you could have your cake and eat it too, assuming you didn't throw it up afterward.

BackToFrankBlack wish Chris Carter A Very Happy Birthday!

Chris Carter needs no introduction but as it's customary to follow those very words with an introduction allow me to do just that. Christopher Carl Carter (born October 13, 1956) is a screenwriter, producer and director best known as the creator of The X-Files and Millennium. Upon the creation and production of The X-Files in 1993, Chris Carter started a production company called Ten Thirteen Productions. It is named in honour of Carter's own birthday and anniversary, which is October 13. It will not be lost on any of you that today is that very date.

For any fan of Millennium or The X-Files, Ten Thirteen resonates as far more than a collection of numbers. Not only is it the birthday of their creator but those numbers appear throughout the episodes of all Ten Thirteen's output in recognition of the man who created them. Spotting them makes for a great drinking game I am told but due to the frequency of their appearance that might not be wise.

Yesterday I was contacted by a wonderful lady and ardent Ten Thirteen fan by the name of Joselyn, who shared with me a rather stunning video she has made to commemorate this special event and pay her tribute to Chris Carter and his wonderful work. It is a pleasure to bring her video tribute to you today and I'm sure you will enjoy it as much as do!

I thought the video was beautiful and a true testament to the creativity Chris Carter's various visions inspired, and continue to inspire, in the countless individuals who are fans of his work. On that rather wonderful note I hope you will join with all of us at
BackToFrankBlack and Chris Carter's fans the world over in wishing him a very Happy Birthday!

Luminary Week Day Six - Chip Johannessen Exclusive Interview!

Chip Johannessen was born in Detroit and educated at Harvard University, where he wrote pieces for The Harvard Lampoon. He later embarked on a short-lived career as a rock guitarist before turning his attention to writing. His past credits include; Beverly Hills 90210 and The Monroes.

Johannessen served as Co-Producer and staff writer for "Millennium" during its first two seasons, before executive producing the show in Season Three following the departure of Glen Morgan and James Wong. Chip is a true Luminary of the franchise: he was involved in all of the sixty seven episodes of the show and wrote no fewer than thirteen of them and was one of the few constants throughout all three seasons.

In 2009, Chip joined Season Seven of 24, serving as Consulting Producer and was also successfully elected to serve for 2 years on the Board of Directors at the Writer's Guild of America West. As Chip has never been busier it is with great gratitude that he took the time to speak to us. We thank Chip for his generosity and support and we wish him every conntinued success for the future. Read on....

MARK HAYDEN: Could I begin by asking you how Millennium came to be on your resume? Presumably there's a process of contacting individuals and their agents and outlining what the show was about?

CHIP JOHANNESSEN: Some time before Millennium, my agent got me a meeting with Chris Carter to talk about working on X-Files. I went in without story ideas, and with only the vaguest understanding of the show. Not only did nothing come of it, but Chris clearly thought I was wasting his time.

Maybe a year later I saw the Millennium pilot at the directors guild and was utterly blown away. It was the most amazing thing I'd ever seen, by far, and I really wanted to work on it. Despite the bad meeting on X-Files, Chris was willing to try again because he was already hiring a friend of mine, Ted Mann, and Ted was suggesting that he give me a second chance.

Not wanting to blow it again, I spent a lot of time thinking up stories, and when I went in to talk to Chris I had a lot of material to present. But Chris always surprises. He said he didn't want to hear material. He just said "I like Ted and Ted likes you. Let's do this." And that was pretty much it.

MH: Millennium fans often refer to the thematic differences between the three seasons. As one of the few producers who worked on all three seasons, what was your experience of the changes in tone and how easy/difficult was it to adjust?

CJ: I was going to say I wrote the exact same kind of thing all three seasons but that's not really true. Things got more and more magical. And conspiratorial. And complicated, not necessarily in a good way. Probably we were all feeling the pull of The X-Files, I'm not sure. But I'm pretty sure we got away from Chris's original concept for the show which was to stay based in reality (unlike the X-Files), while imagining and depicting the different ways the world might be experienced by certain evil people.

These images of the world, which Frank Black was tuned to, were not supposed to be objective reality. They were highly subjective. In fact, in script, the shots were labeled "HIS INTERNAL POV" or "HIS SUBJECTIVE POV"
Already in first season there were some speculative episodes that were terrific (Lamentation; Powers, Principalities...) but keeping a lid on this would probably have been a good idea.

MH: We've been told that the time the show was cancelled the creative team had established a strong foundation on which to forge a fourth season of the series and that a vision was in place for where to take the show next. Can you tell us how you envisage a fourth season of the show would have proceeded?

CJ: We'd had a bad start at the beginning of season three, with some personnel changes that put us behind schedule. Also, I was mad at Jim and Glen for having burned the house down with their pandemic, but in retrospect it would have been smarter to have honored where they left us off instead of trying to work around it. In any case, season three had been a scramble and by the end we were kind of tired. Ken Horton and I were basically partners running the show at that point.

We felt like we'd had some hits and some misses, but were excited about getting a good start into a more coherent fourth season. We were really trying to make sense of what it all meant, especially as we were now heading toward the actual millennium.

I wrote a ten point "manifesto" for the Millennium Group which I no longer have. But I remember the first point was "We are rushing toward an apocalypse of our own creation." I don't remember the rest exactly, but it tried to honor Chris's original idea that the various forms of evil present on this earth are connected, and that they were coming to a boil. In this, the Millennium Group saw itself as a vanguard, the only people who could see a clear path to the future. Since the group's goal was basically the protection of humanity, that might justify practically any means.

In any case, we were cancelled. What would probably have made more sense would have been to get rid of the Millennium Group mythology entirely, and do a heightened, sometimes speculative crime show. That would probably have been closer to what Chris had originally envisioned and, who knows, might still be on today.

MH: Ten years later...a campaign is in full swing, appreciation for the show has never been higher, the thirst from the cast to revisit the franchise shows no sign of abating nor does the esteem with which the show is regarded. Are you surprised by how enduring the franchise is and can you conceive of the possibility of it returning in some format?

CJ: Anything that Chris writes and Lance is in would be awesome.

MH: How much did life change for you when you were appointed Executive Producer for Season 3? Did you have more responsibilities for budgets, meetings with Fox executives and similar considerations?

CJ: Running Millennium was a vastly bigger deal than my second year involvement, which was writing a few scripts. Shortly after we started third season I rented an apartment a block from the studio because I was leaving so late every night, then coming back early the next morning. For a while there, I never really got home. That said, the nature of the work didn't really change because of the unusual way that Chris runs shows.

Unlike most shops, he really encourages writers to step up as producers. If you're willing to be as obsessive about quality as he is, he gives you a lot of freedom. So by the time I was Executive Producer I already had experience with most aspects of making tv thanks to Chris.

MH: Can you tell us anything about Virginia Stock, with whom you co-wrote Bardo Thodol? Millennium fans are particularly appreciative of her work and that episode yet the internet is peculiarly non-informative?

CJ: Virginia Stock is my wife of 20+ years. We have a daughter named Martine; one of her first words was ouroboros. Bardo Thodol started with an image Virginia had -- the tiny hands discovered in a cargo hold. She contributed to many other episodes, but I think that's the only one with her name on it.

MH: 'Luminary' is an episode that garners a high degree of admiration and appreciation from fans of the franchise. Could you provide us with a synopsis of the evolution of that episode from the concept to the screen? When we spoke to Tobias Mehler he implied that his character was an 'angel' and many fans have debated whether it was Alex's 'organic' body that Frank Black found floating in the water for example.

CJ: Luminary has a lot of influences and makes my short list of favorite episodes. So I'm going to make this longer than you probably want. At the time, I was working on a pilot called Vanishing Point with John Hulme and Mike Wexler. It was based on a series of radio plays they had done about an odd dropout culture hidden in plain sight. Our "bibles" were books like Blue Highways and Into the Wild, which was at that point relatively unknown. So the character in Luminary was not supposed to be angel. He was a seeker, abandoning material possessions, looking for a more magical existence.

Ken Horton suggested this kind of guy could be the basis for a cool episode.
That was the foundation, but there were other influences. I had dinner with Megan Gallagher who turned me on to the whole astrology convergence theme. She asked if I could possibly fit it in somewhere and as it turned out it was just what I was looking for.

Other elements are taken from an organization I belonged to in college -- the Harvard Lampoon. Also, Darin Morgan gave me the younger brother with the telescope, and for some reason insisted that when the plane flies off with the injured boy at the end, that Frank had to squat at lake's edge. Finally, I was reading some book at the time whose title I've forgotten, but I'm pretty sure that the idea of the stars matching to houselights on earth came from that. Other stuff, too.

So there were a lot of thoughts floating around and I was up in Vancouver on a location scout for some other episode, and I was obsessing on that kid, and when I stepped off the bus I thought of those lines he says toward the end about what you should do with your life. Something like -- think if you could drop into a past life, what would you like to find yourself doing there? What would charm you, make you proud? Then the question of what to do in this life becomes simple -- just do that same thing.
Anyway, when that thought appeared it was time to start writing. The production was mainly charmed (though Lance can tell you the water was crazy cold). The weather forecast said storms but when it came time to land the seaplane there were beautiful sunny skies.

Normally I leave Mark Snow to his own devices but I was listening to a Finnish women's vocal group at the time which felt perfect for the piece. He graciously adapted it for the score.

MH: Could we ask what fans of yours can keep their eyes and ears open for with regards to the continuing career of Chip Johannessen?

CJ: Right now I'm on 24 with other alums of 1013 Productions: Howard Gordon (who's running it), Alex Gansa and Patrick Harbinson.

MH: Please accept my thanks on behalf of all the fans of Millennium for taking the time to talk to us and for making such an enjoyable and respected contribution to something we cherish!

CJ: My pleasure Mark.

If you've enjoyed this interview, and this week of themed Blog entries, please do the most important thing you can to display your appreciation and support for the campaign and the cast and crew like Mr. Johannessen who have so graciously given of their time. Send this postcard to Steve Asbell at 20th Century Fox and make a difference, today. This is who we are!

A Friend In Need: MITCH PILEGGI!

Yesterday I had the opportunity to talk a staunch supporter of this campaign and a lady not unfamiliar to fans of our sister franchise, the X-Files. Jen, of MitchPileggi.net was contacted by Mr. Pileggi and brought to our attention unfortunate developments in the lives of his family and I thought it our duty to help support Jen and Mitch in their efforts to bring this most deserving of news to your attention.

This evening there is an opportunity to join actor Mitch Pileggi (X-Files, Supernatural, Sons of Anarchy) for a gathering of family, friends and supporters to benefit his sister, Judi Ward in her battle against Leiomyosarcoma.

It is with great sadness that we learnt that Judi has been diagnosed with this very rare form of cancer – LMS affects 4 out of a million people. Sadly, Judi is no longer able to work and no longer has health insurance and event organizers hope to help defray the costs of treating this aggressive disease.

While the cause is serious, the event will be a fun, relaxed affair complete with prizes, gifts and a raffle of memorabilia from Mitch Pileggi’s television work. If you have the opportunity to go please do so and meet Mitch, have some fun, raise awareness of this disease and help support his sister through this most difficult of times.

We understand that many of you will not be able to attend the event but may still want to help. Judi’s family has set up a donation website just for this purpose: http://judiwardlmsfundraiser.yolasite.com/

We do hope you will join with us in spreading the word. Take this news to your Twitter feeds, Blogs and forums and lets see if we can use our united voices to make a difference. This is who we are after all.

LUCY BUTLER WEEK! DAY TWO - EXCLUSIVE DVD COMPETITION

Time for a little competition methinks. As we are spending a week in the nefarious, yet utterly alluring, company of Lucy Butler it is my pleasure to give you all the chance to win a copy of The Entrance that Sarah-Jane Redmond starred in, along with a healthy contingent of X-Files and Millennium cast members I might add, and it's a movie I confess to having watched over and over again. Sarah-Jane is simply brilliant in it but kudos must also be given to her co-stars for such an enjoyable outing.

THE ENTRANCE begins when a young drug dealer (Michael Eklund) seeks out Detective Porhowski (Sarah-Jane Redmond) to tell her about a deadly game that he has been forced to compete in. Further investigations uncover a portal into a deadly netherworld, which is inhabited by an unholy entity who is out for blood. Be on the look out for other Ten Thirteen Alumni in the shape of Ron SauvƩ, C. Ernst Harth, Jerry Wasserman, Frank Cassini and more besides.

Please Note: This competition is now closed. The winner has been notified by email and a copy of the DVD has been mailed to them. Congratulations to the winner and my thanks to everyone who took the time to enter.

To listen to love is blue as you peruse our Blog this week use the 'Love Is Blue' cassette links that will feature on every 'Lucy Week' blog post. Just click the link and a new window will open which will play the tune. Oh, and keep looking over your shoulder in the process eh?

The Truth Is Out There!

This Sunday our erstwhile podcast host, Troy Foreman turns his attention to the deceiving, inveigling and obfuscating world of the X-Files and is joined by none other than podcast regular, Jim McLean and two special guests all the way from XFilesNews.com, Avi Quijada and Tiffany Devol. The episode about to be autopsied, in a very Scully like manner, is 'X-Files: Millennium' our final opportunity, to date, to see Frank Black in action as a fanatical occultist enlisted by the Millennium Group resurrects four members of the group as zombies to bring about the end of the world.

Now this is where you come in. If you have any questions you would like the team to answer or any points you would like to raise for discussion then leave them here at our Blog, with your name for a credit, and the team will put them under the microscope this weekend. Till then, trust no one!

The Ten Thirteen Family: X-Files Fan Club Italy!

Meeting new friends and making allies is one of the most pleasurable aspects of this campaign so imagine my delight when we were contacted by Fran and Silvana, the friendly managers of X-Files Fan Club Italy. Not only did they extend a hearty welcome to us but espoused their support of this campaign and very graciously offered to use their multilingual mastery to translate our news for a potential new slew of campaigners

This campaign has tried, in earnest, to translate its mission statement into as many languages as we can and we owe a huge debt of gratitude to the individuals who have helped us in this respect. There are always new corners of the world wide web in which to recruit new soldiers for Frank's army so if you are able to help us translate news and content please drop us a line, we would love to hear from you.

So head on over to X-Files Italian Fan Club for a enjoyable romp through all things X-Files including a dash of humour, multimedia content, a community forum and much more with plenty for English speaking readers to digest as well. In addition, fans of the mighty David Duchovny should head on over to their Blog for more Duchovny than you can shake a stick at (and that's a whole lot of DD.) Till then, ciao!

TO BE FRANK - BTFB EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

To fans of any of 1013's hit shows, Frank Spotnitz requires no introduction. In time honoured fashion, it is customary to proceed to give one once those immortal words have been uttered but allow me to make an exception. Introduction aside, it was Frank Spotnitz who, probably unwittingly, gave rise to this campaign. His prophetic prediction that 'the time is near' prompted the Millennium Fan Community to wear their hearts on their sleeves and exercise their voices on paper. Of all 1013's luminaries Frank Spotnitz is an extremely busy man, yet finds time to give back to the fans as much as he receives and this interview was no exception. We thank Frank for somehow finding a window in his busy schedule and taking the time to talk to us.

BACKTOFRANKBLACK: Firstly, on behalf of all the fans of Frank Black and Millennium, may I offer our thanks and gratitude for taking the time to talk to us. In 1998, production on the X-Files moved to LA and Millennium remained in Vancouver. As a writer and producer on both shows did that present a challenge and result in a hectic production schedule or did business continue as usual?

FRANK SPOTNITZ: It was a challenge, to be sure, but not as big as the challenge we'd faced the previous year, when we not only launched Season One of "Millennium," but produced Season Four of "The X-Files" and "The X-Files: Fight the Future." That was by far the most difficult year of my professional life. Fortunately, when Season Two of "Millennium" began, Glen Morgan and Jim Wong agreed to take over showrunning duties, which eased the burden enormously for Chris and me.

BTFB
: Millennium fans consider the franchise beyond compare and during our correspondence with the cast and crew many have echoed the sentiment that their contribution to the show represented some of the finest work of their careers. What was it about the show that allowed so many individuals to deliver such a high quality work output?

FS: I think you'd have to say it begins -- as it did with "The X-Files" -- with Chris' singular vision. There was such a clear and powerful idea at the center of the show and, like "The X-Files," that clarity allowed a lot of very talented people to come and elaborate on it, taking the show in directions I'm sure Chris never imagined. I think "Millennium" benefited and suffered from being in the shadow of "The X-Files" -- suffered, because the network was doubtless disappointed that it never achieved the popular success of "The X-Files," but benefited because Chris' success with "The X-Files" gave "Millennium" a lot more creative freedom than it would've had otherwise.

BTFB: At the conclusion of Season Three, we believe, the issue of cancellation was not immediately decided. If this was the case, were plans afoot for a fourth season and what do you believe was the direction the show would have taken during the season?

FS
: Yes, we were all on pins and needles, hoping the network would decide to proceed with a fourth season. It seemed awful to us that the show would be canceled before it even had a chance to reach the turn of the millennium. Chip Johannessen and Ken Horton were really driving the series at that point and had a lot of ideas they never got to realize.

BTFB: Millennium fans have existed as an organized concern ever since the conception of the franchise. One thing this campaign has necessitated is for our community to bring its existence into the spotlight with the same vigour and commitment displayed by our friends in the X-Files universe. Has it been pleasing to discover that such a body of passionate fans exists?

FS
: It's wonderful to see how many people sti
ll watch and appreciate the series.

BTFB: During our conversations with Lance Henriksen he has echoed our own sentiments that, whilst the goal of this campaign is clear, we are flexible in what we consider a successful return of the character. Should the Movie prove unattainable would you consider exploring other avenues such as television movies, direct to DVD instalments, audio book adaptations etc. in order to give the fans more of their hero?

FS
: That's really Chris' call, but I would support whatever Chris and Lance wanted to do.

BTFB: Both Chris Carter and Lance Henriksen have hinted that ideas have been discussed about the format a Millennium Movie might adopt. What type of story do you envision, would it return to the mythos of the TV show or concentrate on Frank devoid of the trappings of his televisual backstory?

FS: We haven't really discussed what Chris would want to do, but I suspect it would have to serve new audiences while at the same time honoring the fans who've championed it all these years by recognizing and continuing Frank Black's journey.

BTFB: Millennium fans were delighted to see Frank Black make a brief cameo in the X-Files comic that is currently on release. You have stated that the comic is a way for you to explore aspects of the X-Files mythology that you were unable to expand upon during the course of the show. Would you like the opportunity to explore Millennium in a similar manner?

FS: Absolutely!

BTFB: You have hinted at two new TV shows that are currently in development, one of which is with NBC. Is TenThirteen related to either of these projects and when should fans expect to see them unveiled?

FS
: The projects I'm doing are solo. But I look forward to working with Chris when and if he's so inclined.

BTFB: Thank you so much, Frank, for taking the time to speak to us!

A Frank Black fan speaks out!

"Hello!

Millennium was and still is one of my favorite series of all times. I was devastated when Fox took it off the air to the point I emailed them with my displeasure! Thank goodness the Chiller network brought it back and I've been able to watch every episode again.

I've never had such a dark show impact me in such a positive way. The show was and still is light years ahead of its time. Give Lance his long over due credit as an actor and Frank Black the credit he deserved as a character and put this show back on TV and/or as a movie as the ending of the series was just the beginning in my opinion of what was going to be a great series for many years.

Thank you so much for your efforts to bring back Millennium. If everyone contributes just a simple email we can make this a reality for all passionate Millennium fans like myself. In a tough economic and world climate like this anything that takes us away from reality for just a few moments to collect our thoughts is a welcome diversion.

Good luck and bring back Millennium!

Sincerely,

- Todd F"
